Web site 101

Having a web site is now just as important as having a business card and essential to establishing your company as a professional business. Here are some tips to help you understand how a web site can work for your business.

Top Ten Way to Make Your Web site Work for You!

  1. Optimize it for the web. Does your site meet the current search engine guidelines? Is your text written to allow your site to be found on a local search?

  2. Update often. Your web site should offer the same information a customer would get when speaking to you or coming to your business. Frequently updated sites get better search engine rankings.

  3. Make the site attractive. A recent Stanford University study found that over 50% of visitors’ judge the professionalism of the company based on how well designed the web site is. Just because someone can build a web site does not mean they can design one.

  4. Make your point. You’ve got 5 seconds to impress someone with your content. Don’t turn them off with a cluttered homepage or too many navigation choices. Make those seconds count!

  5. You can please everyone! Provide as much information about your product and services as possible. If the information is laid out properly you can please everyone – those who just want the facts and those who want to research a company before buying.

  6. Opportunity knocks. Use an email marketing system to send out coupons, information about new services or advertise specials. Sign up people online, through intake forms, every way possible.

  7. Make your web address obvious. Print your web address on everything prominently – and choose a web address that is easy to read and remember.

  8. Save printing & mailing costs. Supply forms and documents your clients need online.

  9. Make yourself easy to find. Provide a printable map to your location with your address and phone number so new customers can find you quickly and easily.

  10. Advertise! Just because you built it, doesn’t mean they will come. Your business needs marketing – traditional and internet. Design a marketing plan that takes advantage of the free advertising the internet creates.
